Please remember that during their first year of hire, Day-to-Day, Early Education, and Paraprofessional Substitutes are not eligible for district-subsidized health or dental benefits.
However, in compliance with the Affordable Care Act, at the end of each fiscal year (6/30), the District conducts a "Look Back", in which it calculates the hours that each employee has worked that year.
Employees who work an average of 20-29 hours per week from the beginning of the school year will be eligible for employee-only coverage with Kaiser for the following school year.
Employees who work an average of 30 + hours per week from the beginning of the school year will be eligible to choose employee and dependent coverage with one of the following health plans (not including dental) for the following school year:
Finally, like with Step 2 salary pay, once employees receive health benefits, they must work the same average minimum (either 20 or 30 hours per week) the following school year in order to keep the health insurance coverage for the subsequent school year. So, if you work 30 hours each week in the 2018-2019 school year, you will receive health benefits in 2019-2020. You must continue to work 30 hours each week in 2019-2020 in order to keep your health benefits in 2020-2021.
